Today, I will show you a good example of a Korean school meal with 3 Korean sides, a main dish, and a soup. The 3 Korean sides are Korean beef patties called TteokGalBi, spicy, sweet, and sour cucumber side called OiChoMuChim, and bachelor radish kimchi. I also picked Korean curry and rice as a main dish to serve on top of the rice along with today’s soup, kimchi soy bean sprout soup. All the flavor and nutritional combination are greeat for this meal. If you like, I will share more of this kind of Korean school meal videos.

The Korean beef side dish Tteok GalBi is a very tasty dish that is a good representative of Korean food flavor. Tteok means sticky rice cakes and galbi is a marinated Korean meat dish. However, you will soon see that there are no sticky rice cakes in this recipe. So then, why it is called “Tteok Galbi?” The original Galbi dish uses beef or pork ribs. Tteok galbi has a similar taste with galbi; however, the texture is like sticky rice cakes because it has ground beef and other vegetables in it.
This spicy, sweet, and sour cucumber side, OIChoMuChim is a Korean side-dish you can quickly make it with just a few ingredients. The flavor matches with many other Korean foods, so it is a perfect choice for any Korean meals.
Bachelor radish kimchi is a very popular summer kimchi in Korea. You might wonder why the name is “bachelor kimchi.” In the old days, boys who did not marry had to wear a special haircut that was styled like the shape of this radish. So Koreans called this radish, “bachelor radish,” and the kimchi made with it is called “bachelor radish kimchi.” With well fermented bachelor kimchi, you can make different kinds of korean dishes. Of course, just eating the kimchi with rice also taste awesome.
Curry powder is considered to be very healthy. Adding different kinds of vegetables and meat will make it even healthier. This recipe is a Korean style curry & rice dish. This curry tastes best with chicken rather than other meat, but you can skip the meat and it will still taste very good. 😀
