Video Instructions
Main Ingredients
- 1 Pack Firm Tofu (14 oz) (2 Pinches Salt & 2 Pinches Black Pepper)
- 2 Tbsp Red Hot Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Green Hot Pepper
- ½ Tbsp Sesame Seeds (Garnish)
- 2 Generous Tbsp Cooking Oil
Sauce Ingredients
- ½ Cup Water
- ¼ Cup Green Onion
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1½ Tbsp Hot Pepper Powder
- 2 tsp Garlic, Minced
- ½ Tbsp Sugar
- ½ Tbsp Sesame Oil
Directions
Obtain 1 pack (14 oz) of firm tofu. Rinse it and gently dry the tofu with a paper towel.
Cut the tofu in half lengthwise and then slice the halves into ¼-inch slices.
Place the tofu pieces on a flat surface and gently tap the top surface with a paper towel to get rid of the extra moisture.
To season the plain tofu a little bit, sprinkle 2 pinches of salt and 2 pinches of black pepper on top of the tofu. Set it aside while you are preparing the other ingredients.
Cut 2 Tbsp worth of red hot pepper and 2 Tbsp worth of green hot pepper thinly. Finely chop ¼ cup worth of green onion. I love extra spiciness in this dish, so I love to have fresh hot peppers in it. If you can not handle spicy food, you can skip them. However, if you are spicy food lover, I highly recommend you try these spicy peppers in this recipe. 🙂
Combine all the ingredients for the sauce into a small mixing bowl; ½ cup water, ¼ cup green onion, 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 1½ Tbsp hot pepper powder, 2 tsp minced garlic, ½ Tbsp sugar, ½ Tbsp sesame oil.
Mix everything well. This sauce is so tasty that you can be creative and use it for other things besides tofu.
Preheat a nonstick pan with 2 generous tablespoons of cooking oil on medium-high.
Before you put the tofu into the heated pan, tap the bottom of the tofu on a paper towel to remove the excess liquid. In this recipe, I used this process to remove the excess water 3 times in different steps. It helps to make crispier tofu. Additionally, the oil will splash less when you fry it.
Fry one side for about 3 minutes on medium-high, or until it becomes nicely golden brown.
Flip the tofu once and fry the other side for 3 minutes, or until it becomes nicely golden brown. It is important not to flip the tofu much or it will fall apart.
After the tofu is done frying, pour the sauce over the tofu. Reduce the temperature to medium and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until the sauce has boiled down.
Then add the hot peppers and ½ Tbsp of sesame seeds. Cook for 2 more minutes and turn off the heat.
The red and green hot peppers make the dish prettier and appetizing. It tastes really delicious with freshly cooked hot rice.

Thank you for this delicious and easy recipe! My family loves it. I’ve made this a few times, but today I decided to make a triple batch of the sauce (without the water and green onions) for future use because I know I’ll be making this dish again and again! Your recipes are a blessing to my family!

Hi Aeri!
Thank you for your amazing recipes.
I have a question on side dishes. How many side dishes do you typically have on a regular day?
Do you make a lot of different side dishes and put it in the fridge, or make it fresh every day?
Thank you!
Aeri Lee says
hi Irma,
You are welcome. About your question.. it can be depends on the family… but normally.. it will be like… rice, soup, 1 or 2 kinds kimchi…and 2-4 side dishes.. among the side-dishes.. some can be premade and stored in the refrigerator like kimchi… some can be freshly made.. usually vegetable sides..My 3 sides meal or 5 sides meal video on youtube can give you a better idea.. please check them..here are the links for you.
