떡 베이컨말이, Ddeok BeIKeonMalI

For a delicious and fancy looking party food using sticky rice cakes and bacon, try 떡 베이컨 말이. Just roll and fry the rice cakes with bacon, and then serve these with tasty dipping sauces. I will share 2 different flavors of dipping sauce this time. One is a honey mustard sauce and the other is a sweet and spicy sauce. Christmas is coming; this can be a great appetizer for your Christmas party. Try it someday. :)

Main Ingredients

  • 20 Sticky Rice Cake Pieces
  • 10 Turkey Bacon (or Regular Bacon) Strips
  • 20 Tooth Picks

Honey Mustard Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp Mustard
  • 2 tsp Honey

Sweet and Spicy Sauce Ingredients

Mix all the ingredients for the honey mustard sauce in a small bowl: 1 Tbsp mayonnaise, 2 tsp mustard, and 2 tsp honey.

Stir it until all the ingredients are mixed well.

Add all the ingredients for the sweet and spicy sauce in a small sauce pan: 2 Tbsp ketchup, 2 Tbsp corn syrup (or 1 tsp sugar), 1 Tbsp minced onion, 1 Tbsp water, 2 tsp hot pepper paste, and 1 tsp Soy Sauce.

Obtain 20 sticky rice cakes.

Put the sticky rice cakes in boiling water and cook for 2 minutes on high, or until soft.

When the sauce starts to bubble, cook for 1 minute on medium-high. Keep stirring it.

When the rice cakes are done cooking, rinse the rice cakes in cold water once and then drain.

Obtain 10 bacon strips and cut them in half. Depending on the size of your rice cakes, you may want to divide the bacon strips into 3 equal pieces. As long as you can roll the bacon all the way around the rice cake, it is long enough.

Place a piece of bacon on a plate and put a rice cake at the one end of the bacon.

Roll the bacon around the rice cake tightly.

Poke the center of the rolled rice cake with a tooth pick. This helps the bacon stick to the rice cake to make a better shape. It also makes it easier to hold and eat later.

My colored tooth picks make this more pretty and appetizing. :) Of course, you can use normal tooth picks.

Place the rice cakes on a heated pan.

Fry the rice cakes for about 3-5 minutes, or until they become golden brown on medium. Since the rice cakes are already cooked, just focus on frying the bacon well. When one surface is cooked, turn the rice cakes on the other side to finish cooking.

Serve the rice cakes with the dipping sauce. Depending on your tastes, you can just make one sauce if you prefer. My husband and I both liked to dip and eat the rice cakes in both sauces at the same time. They are so delicious. @.@ Enjoy!

    Hi Aeri,
You are a lifesaver. I’m a Korean-American just newly married to a Korean living in Tajikistan. I never cooked Korean before but thankfully I came across your website and have used your recipes for my husband and he totally loves my cooking! Thanks to your website he’s the happiest husband in the world!

I like your new layout but it’s kind of hard looking for something specific. You used to have a picture index which was really really helpful but I can’t seem to find it on your new website. Can you please bring it back? Are Hangul dish names searchable on your site?

Anyway, thanks for posting recipes!! I sooooo appreciate it!

I can see you are a real reader of my blog because you know exactly what are missing from old theme. hehe Yes.. we will have our picture index for this theme too.. and before in the subtitle.. we added the dish names in hangul.. so you could search with hangul.. that will come back soon too.. Please wait for us. It always takes time to adjust for changes in life right.. hehe Once, we finish working on it, we will announce about new theme to explain the changes we made and how to use our blog..etc..Thanks again.. I love to hear more good advice.. feedback.. about our blog from you in the future. Merry Christmas.
