Seanail Sidedish

GolBaengi MuChim is a popular dish that Korean people eat as a snack when they drink. Of course, for people who don’t drink like me, it is also a good dish. You can get a can of sea snails in an Asian or Korean store. It is great to eat this dish with the boiled thin noodles, if you have them. As the the name says, the taste is a little spicy, sweet, and sour. Depending on your tastes, you can adjust the amount of sugar and vinegar. However it tastes best when there is enough sour and sweet flavor. My YouTube subscriber “Stuhletto” requested this dish sometime ago, so it’s especially for “Stuhletto”

I’m very happy that I can post something for you today. Thanks to all of the concern and prayers you sent us. Each day I feel better. Thank you so much. I’m such a blessed person to get all the love from different countries. God bless you all~~

Short Korean Lesson: *^^*

  • GolBaengi (골뱅이) = Sea Snail

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 Can Sea Snails (GolBaengI) (1 Cup)
  • 1 Cucumber (1 Cup)
  • ½ Onion (½ Cup)
  • 1 Carrot (⅓ Cup)
  • 1 Handful Cabbage (or Romain Lettuce)
  • 2-3 Green Onions
  • 1 Red Hot Pepper & 1 Green Hot Pepper
  • 5 Sesame Leaves (Optional)

Sauce Ingredients:

Yield: About For 3 Servings

seanail_sidedish_02-
Drain the liquid from the can.

seanail_sidedish_03-
Rinse the sea snails and drain out the water.

seanail_sidedish_04-
If the snails are too big, cut them into bite sized pieces.

seanail_sidedish_05-
Cut 1 cucumber (1 Cup).

seanail_sidedish_06-
Slice ½ of an onion (½ Cup) thinly.

seanail_sidedish_07-
Chop 1 handful of cabbage (or Romain lettuce) into bite sized pieces. If you use cabbage, slice it into thin strips.

seanail_sidedish_08-
Cut 1 carrot (⅓ cup) thinly. Cut 1 red hot pepper and 1 green hot pepper into ½ inch pieces.

seanail_sidedish_09-
Cut 2-3 green onions thinly. I didn’t have sesame leaves, but if you can get them, it would be very good to add 5 of them. Slice them like the cabbage.

seanail_sidedish_10-
In a small bowl, combine 3 Tbsp of red pepper paste, 1 Tbsp of red pepper powder, ½ Tbsp of soy sauce, 2-2½ Tbsp of sugar, 2-2½ Tbsp of vinegar, ⅛ Tsp of garlic powder, and ½ Tbsp of sesame seeds. Mix them all. As I mentioned, start from 2 Tbsp of sugar and vinegar and, depending on your taste, adjust the amounts.

seanail_sidedish_11-
In a large bowl, add all of the sea snails and the prepared vegetables.

seanail_sidedish_12-
Pour the sauce on the vegetables and mix well.

seanail_sidedish_13-

Does it looks yummy? If you don’t want to eat sea snails, you can substitute them with boiled squid or shrimp. Oops, maybe you don’t want them either? Well, how about this then … just skip them all! – just mix all the vegetables with sauce, and that will be good too. hehe Thank you!!! See you soon again~~

p.s. My friend Arleen, you made my day. Thank you for your special surprise. Love you~~~

Hello, I love this recipe and I am making it for my boyfriends birthday. Could you suggest a couple of other dishes that would compliment it? Something good for the summer?

Hi Aeri! I’ve been coming to your site for a few weeks now and am a big fan! I’ve heard of gol bang ee moo chim but have never tried it before. I’ll definately try to make it sometime, it sounds easy enough and I think I can tackle it. :) Especially if they sell it in a can hehe. My parents still live in Korea, and I’m in New York, so it’s hard learning Korean dishes, since I can’t turn to my mom for help all of the time. Your site has helped me a lot and has been really inspirational! I also started my own food blog! So far I only have one reciepe (I thought I’d start out with something super easy) but I hope to continue updating like you. It’s a lot more time consuming that I thought! You should drop by and check it out if you have time. http://www.happilyeatingmywaythroughlife.blogspot.com. Thanks again :)

I’m looking forward to reading all of the entries.

How did you LOSE 7 pounds!?!? Did you have bad morning sickness? You said it’s getting better, right? Thankfully, I don’t have any morning sickness and I actually GAINED 7 pounds from all of the eating and sleeping I do. =P Since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve been craving meat. I eat so much galbi and spicy pork! Do you crave anything? How many weeks are you? 7 or 8? =) Please take care of yourself especially during the 1st trimester.

      Mimi

        Hi, Mimi
Yep… I lost 7 pounds.. that makes me concern… so I try to eat more even I don’t want to eat…. wow… I’m happy to hear that you are good… Your baby is very nice to you..;) You are totally opposite to me.. I don’t want to eat meat at all.. especially chicken.. In Korea.. we think… if you have girl… want to eat fruits and vegetables but not meat.. and if you have boy.. you want to eat meat.. like that.. we can see if it’s right later.. ;) I was craving kimbap a lot nowadays.. and one of my Korean friend made kimbap 2 days ago.. so yummy…hehe I guess..i’m 11 or 12 weeks now.. but not sure.. how about you ?? next wednesday..I have the first doctor’s appointment. Have a good weekend.

don’t worry,my friend. it’s highly normal to lose some weight during the first trimester. in the coming months, your body will start putting maternal fat. so, get ready! please don’t make yourself eat when you don’t feel like it. just take your vitamins. ^take it easy!!

I’m going to make bibimbap today for my husband.. it’s been long time since I really cook something for him.. my poor husband. thanks again.. have a great week !!!
