This is another Korean spinach side dish: SiGemChi Namul. You can use this side dish for other Korean dishes like Bibimbap, JapChae, KimBap, etc. Of course, you can also eat it as a side dish with rice, soup, etc. My sweet husband made the special animation video for this dish and posted it on YouTube. Thanks!
Yield: 2 Servings
Short Korean Lesson
- SiGeumChi (시금치) = Spinach
- SoGeum (소금) = Salt
- 3 Handfuls Fresh Spinach (1 Cup Boiled Spinach)
- 7 Cups Water (1 tsp Salt)
- ⅛ tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Sesame Oil
- ⅔ to 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Some Sesame Seeds (Garnish)
Add 1 tsp of sea salt in 7 cups of water and boil on high. The salt helps the spinach to retain its color.
In the boiling water, add the spinach and cook for 30 seconds on high.
For the best results, the spinach should be cooked for a short time at a high temperature.
After 30 seconds, quickly drain the hot water and rinse the spinach in cold water several times. This step again helps to retain the spinach’s green color.
Squeeze out the water.
Mix together the boiled spinach, ⅛ of salt, 1 tsp of sesame oil, and 1 tsp of minced garlic.
To serve, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. Enjoy!
